When manual data is the honest choice
Automation is useful when the source is clean. For small portfolios, typed and dated entries are often the more trustworthy record.
Completeness is not the same as truth
A feed that imports every swipe can still be wrong about what the swipe was for. Manual entry is slower and, for a 3–20 unit portfolio, usually clearer.
Mark the source
Entered, estimated, missing. Those three states stop a later-you from treating a guess as a fact. If you estimate interest for a week, say it is an estimate.
Use automation later, if ever
When a lender statement or a rent receipt arrives, confirm the manual line. That is reconciliation — not a black box that “just updates.”
